Repair and Upgrade
What are the most common things that can go wrong with a computer?
Normally it is something as simple as a broken modem, video card or sound card. Sometimes the power supply will fail, but in general computers are very reliable. Most repairs can be undertaken for a reasonable cost, but sometimes it is fairest to say to a client 'This machine is beyond repair. It would be cheaper to buy a new one'.
Realistically, almost every machine prior to Windows XP, that is Windows 95, 98, ME, NT are old to the point where repair and upgrade can be more expensive than buying new. No, being honest, they are obsolete. The only exception is if you have a particular application that works well and you wish to stick with it. If you have just spent a fortune on a new digital camera and wonder why your Windows 98 machine can't work work with it, the answer is that it never will. You will just have to buy new.
